From the moment Mason Travers sees Dale Addison wrestling with her grandfather's beast of a dog, he is enchanted. Dale, for her part, is equally charmed by the handsome businessman, but she is determined to remain aloof. She is only visiting her grandparents' small town for a short time while she regroups after losing her New York City job. Mason is likewise intent on avoiding emotional attachments.

However, as co-organizers of the town's annual festival, the pair can neither avoid each other nor ignore their feelings. Mason has been hurt in the past and fears additional pain.
