"Common threads is a series of hand-embroidered canvas books, that copy the form and design of dime store "composition" books. The books themselves, self consciously hand made objects, are a record of coincidental occurrences generally gleaned from reading or mundane events. The use of embroidery thread allows for the production of the text and image with the same mark and material, to make the text, image and substance of the book inseparable. Volume LXVIII varies from earlier versions in that the embroidery on the covers deviates from the typical patterning of the traditional composition book with repeating patterns of [orange] cats viewed from both the side and tope. There are 8 pages, 6 of which are embroidered with text; 2 which make up a spread with strings spanning both pages mimicing a game of cat's cradle"--Artist's information sheet.
