The UK edition of The Guardian wrote "Crying Out Loud is a 15-minute musical tantrum based on hiccupping rhythmic figures that seemingly pay homage to Louis Andriessen, before developing into a more familiar argument in which Bartok and Miles Davis tussle forsupremacy."
