Dentistry is the branch of medicine which is concerned with the study of disorders, diseases and conditions of the oral cavity, oral mucosa, and related structures and tissues in the maxillofacial area. Oral diseases which are treated within this branch of medicine are dental carries and periodontal disease. These can be treated through the extraction or surgical removal of teeth, restoration of teeth, endodontic root canal treatment, scaling and root planing.
