Many people have figured out their life purposes and have established big goals and dreams through personal discoveries, their abilities and talents, and life experiences, while people like me continue to wonder, contemplate, and search for our own. When I was much younger, I often thought about what I wanted to do or who I desired to become when I grew up and my purpose for living. After enduring a hard-knock life warped with adverse, detrimental, and destructive experiences and acquiring many emotional, mental, and physical scars, I realized I wanted to help people in areas I did not receive support or guidance. Despite having people around me who would tell me when I messed up and help me get back on the right track, they lacked wisdom, integrity, and authenticity and failed to lead by example. People around me expected me to do what they said and not do what they did. Too many young people grow up without guidance in their homes, become products of their environments, and commit to ways of life that condone negative mentalities and living. They settle for less because they have no sense of self-worth and never receive affirmation from others telling them they are worthy. I used to be one of those kids who did not know any better and ran to the streets because I thought that was where I would find love. It took many hard life lessons and discipline to elevate my thinking and accept that the dangerous path I was traveling did not love me and was not worth pursuing. To the person reading this book of poems, I imagine you can relate to at least one story that resonates with your life experience and reminds you of a difficult or traumatic time you may have faced during your youth.
