Author Lawanda Madison has given readers a cast of faulty-virtuous characters in Falling Up who are just like some of the people we know and associate with in our lives. Andrew, nicknamed Drew, is a handsome, hardworking, fun-loving, talented man-about-town until he meets Salida. She is the woman who steals his heart. All the while, Drew has a love for God that becomes intensified when he is faced with overwhelming vicissitudes that wreck what has heretofore been his seemingly charmed life. His poetry writing and heartfelt prayers to God let readers sneak a peek into the heart of this complex character. A tragedy that occurred in Salida's life prior to meeting Drew has placed a cloud overhead from which she cannot escape. Even Tamara, Drew's best friend since childhood and a woman whose life in some ways can rival the life of Mother Teresa, struggles with letting go of an ex-boyfriend who finds joy in manipulating Tamara's feeling as his whims dictate. But the beauty of it all is found in the characters who ultimately and firmly rely on God and let Him rule their lives. They eventually find the peace and joy that passes understanding, elements which become a firm fixture in their daily lives.
