Jake Nelson is a fourteen year old kid who grew up in Hawthorne, California just minutes away from the hard streets of South Central LA. Feeling restricted from his parents and needing a break from the suburban life he was accustomed to, Jake meets Maria Menda, an adopted Latina girl who lived in the hood. After seeing the life Maria and her brothers were living, Jake desperately wants to be like her older brothers who's a part of the gang life. Ousted by his family, Jake turns to the streets for help only to find that the ones you call your homies aren't really your friends and the life he once wanted, he quickly finds that being a gangster isn't all what it seems. Jake encounters one bad break after the next.
