Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. LHC@home is a distributed computing project using the BOINC framework, run by volunteers on behalf of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Its primary goal is to help maintain and improve the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which became active in September 2008. Data from the project is utilized by engineers to improve the operation and efficiency of the accelerator, and to predict possible problems that could arise from adjustment or modification of the LHC's equipment. The project is administered by volunteers, and receives no funding from CERN. BOINC users who are considering joining this project should know that it only occasionally has work; the project is used for design and repair considerations related to the LHC. There are currently no plans to use the project to do computation on the data that will be collected by the LHC.
