Mona Juma is a seventeen year old girl in her final year of high school. She has an identical twin sister called Mandy Juma. They live with their father in an urban area. She attends a mixed day school near her home. She goes through challenges in her friendships. She feels the pressure of her final year exams. She struggles with how to handle boys. And she tries to maintain a peaceful home life. Mona's story is an epistolary novel.
After her final year of high school, Mona engages in drinking. She is involved in an accident in the company of her friend and twin sister. Mona and her friend die in the accident. Her twin sister, Mandy, goes into a coma after the accident. She wakes up to find her sister buried. As a result of her brain injury she has amnesia. It takes months for her to recover a few memories. When she does, she discovers that her sister's identity is forced on her.
She has to come to terms with her sister's death. She has to choose whether she will go on living under her sister's identity or tell the world the truth. If she tells the truth, she will suffer humiliation and at the same time turn her world upside down. Mandy didn't get her examination results because she cheated but Mona got her results. If she keeps her sister's identity, she will be able to join college immediately thereby pursuing her career. She is torn between honoring her sister's memory and advancing herself.
