Mort is for the weirdos like me and maybe you too. I love vultures and Mort is the perfect character who brings out little things to remind us all what makes us different, special, and sometimes a little gross and out there. He is uncomfortable in his skin, which is relatable at any age, but he is loyal to the ones he loves and optimistic about pretty much anything. That's something we all need to get little reminders of here and there sometimes. Even scary vultures. This book, while written for children, has adult lessons too. Learning to love and accept each other shouldn't have to be a childhood morality fire drill. The deeper context of Mort's surroundings might catch the attention of some eagle eyed adults too, but mostly, this book is about inclusivity and acceptance through the eyes of a little meat eating, bald headed vulture chick that loves his friends to death. I hope you enjoy Mort and the labor of love that is his world. I hope, whether you are reading his story as an adult or a child, that he brings a smile to your face and reminds you to be nicer to someone today. I also hope your kids grow up to be a little bit weird and unsure of themselves enough to channel it into something wonderful, creative, and bloody fulfilling.
