Following the Marrow controversy in the mid-eighteenth century, Marrow theology became largely preserved within the Seceder tradition and was mostly absent in the established Church of Scotland. But by examining John Colquhoun's writings on the controversial issues of the free offer of the gospel and the relation of saving faith to assurance, justification, and repentance, Biegel demonstrates that Colquhoun's evangelical Calvinism was refracted specifically through the theological prism of the Marrow men. Colquhoun's commitment to Marrow theology made him stand out among both moderate and evangelical ministers of the Church of Scotland.
