Reliability theory evolved in world war II. Since then no other branch of engineering science, with the exception of computer technology and environmental engineering, has developed and advanced so fast as reliability engineering. The theory of complex systems plays an important role in lots of study, starting from computer science, physics and engineering, to atomic and populace science et al. The technological development in these sciences has resulted in the creation of enormous variety of complex and automated devices. Many of these devices are expensive and increasingly dependent on them. There is a growing demand for these devices to be highly reliable, especially in areas where replacement costs are prohibitive (such as space and undersea).
