Exaggerated to the absurd, Encimer pulls back the covers of the seedy side of the nascent counterculture of Southern California. Palmer is an over educated, crazed 'every-man' who is obsessed by the one thing he can't have.
This seminal work was composed as a high speed typewritten stream of consciousness while the author manned his first of many used bookstores. Immersed in the underbelly of academia, the political struggles, and the cultural revolution of the liberating early 1960's Southern California.
Palmer's frustrated misadventures, irreverent and ribald, began in this volume, and continued in long imagined elaborate unwritten sequels. All sidelined by the extensive topical social commentary that transfixed the activist and humanitarian that Encimer would become.
As a public advocate he called him self 'The Peoples Whistle' and was instrumental in countless organizing efforts for peace, civil rights and justice, his many bookstores becoming hubs of organizing and information in the community he help build.
This work was transcribed from a photocopy of the original yellowed and fading annotated manuscript a year after his death in 2021.
