Goodbye elementary school. Carmen Brown is headed to the big leagues--middle school.

With a slammin' outfit, a new pink backpack, and spiral curls, Carmen is ready to face the first day of sixth grade. But knowing she looks good on the outside isn't where her joy really comes from. A full heart comes from knowing that, as a Christian, God is living inside of her.

And thank goodness for that because it isn't long before Carmen's best friends, Layah and Rianna, are acting jealous of her newfound popularity at school. Things aren't looking so good at home either. Carmen's mom has a mysterious lump that might be cancer! With her grades slipping and her smile fading, Carmen must learn to listen to God to restore her friendships, please her parents, and regain her own Perfect Joy.
