Raised in San Francisco; I grew up with a vast and colorful array of friends; gay as well as straight. I was luckier than most; to have an accepting family and friends with the beauty of the City as a backdrop for my life. Life took a dramatic turn in 2006, when my partner of four years turned my life upside down by announcing he was leaving. Adding insult to injury, he took the new home we had purchased only months earlier; selling it to an acquaintance of his for what was owed to the bank and had me put out into the street. That dream home had been a culmination of my life savings and needless to say, I lost everything. Lawyers advised me that without laws protecting "my kind" there was literally nothing I could do. Of course being married, which we probably would have been; having been together for four years already, he would have never been able to do that. At this time when the Bush administration was lobbying to amend the constitution, striking down same sex marriage once and for all. Born bitter outrage and frustration came Pink Zone and although it is a work of fiction I do hope it stands to remind people they must stand and fight for their rights in the face of adversity.
