Your direct prehistoric ancestors have been "thinking" for 5 million years, but that doesn't mean you have given it much thought. It simply may imply that thinking is the seamless, mysterious process you have always taken for granted.
The fact that human beings are subject to discontent, neuroses, hatred, crime, war, etc., indicates it is more likely that your thoughts control you rather than vice versa. And, science be damned, the intransigent belief that we utilize only ten percent of our mind's capacity, remains one of the most well-loved, though fallacious, myths of all time. It appears that this convenient "scapegoat" for our malaise, the underutilization of ninety percent of our mental capacity, is too magnetic to resist and too comforting to ever let go of.
But let go you must or continue living in the apparent labyrinth known as your mind, a.k.a. "psyche".
