Harrison dates to 1891, during the exciting days of the Northwests expansion. The areas forests were full of old growth pine, fir, and cedar. Lakes and rivers provided transportation. Logging camps, sawmills, homesteads, and towns were springing up. Mills lined the waterfront vying for space with the railroad and steamship docks.
