These "frontier ballads," dirges, and rock climbers' epithalamia sing and play as they make a musical theory out of daily life, as when we hear the approach of "the ice cream truck's hemiola." Mountainwise rather than streetwise, Bell zooms from a 360-degree vista to a living room window, taking in everything from death and marriage to freedom fries and breakfast cereal. She obtained a BA in English from Luther College (Decorah, IA) and an MFA in Creative Writing-Poetry from Columbia College Chicago. She is the author of the chapbook Signs Point to Yes (dancing girl press). Her work has appeared in Barrelhouse, DIAGRAM, H_NGM_N, Puerto del Sol, Spinning Jenny and elsewhere. She is also a classically-trained soprano and can often be found singing with various choirs throughout the Denver metro area.
