This book is a story about senior citizens trying to live in an insane world in Florida. It starts when a sweet old lady orders a limited production, valuable tea set at the urging of her friend. Meanwhile some foreign exchange students from Iraq get involved with some dangerous drug dealers who have illegal drugs sent to the student's apartment above the sweet old lady. Then a screw up by the delivery service leads to a misunderstanding. This leads to another misunderstanding with the two foreign exchange students who really don't understand how America works. This ultimately leads to the package containing the tea set getting mixed up with a package containing illegal drugs. This leads to an arrest of the sweet old lady and three of her friends who came over for a monopoly party. Meanwhile in Iraq, people are getting killed and the student's parents want to move their families to America to be safe. At the same time in America, the drug dealers capture the students and want to know where their package is and threaten to kill them. They get away and go back to Iraq where it is safer than in America. Then they all move to Syria to be safe. Then it revolves around the trial of this innocent sweet old lady with a young defense lawyer that tries everything he can think of to get her off. In an effort to prove the sweet old lady's innocence, a private eye is put on the case and almost gets the proof they need, but comes to a bad end instead. A TV show features the case everyday and calls for her to be found guilty. The police keep feeding the media everyday with more things they found and it all ends up on the TV show that everyone watches. The court system, the DEA, the drug cartel, and the media build this case into something that the young lawyer cannot overcome. Even the sweet old lady's friends turn against her. The young lawyer realizes that you are really not innocent until proven guilty in this country. The opposite is true, and he can't prove that she is innocent. The sweet old lady ends up in prison because everything is stacked against her on purpose. At the end of the story, all the characters went back to doing everything they did before this whole thing happened but in a different place. Because Florida is insane, most of the characters came out better off than they were before. The story involves murder, theft, revenge, drug dealing, screw ups, and what people do to stay safe and to keep the rest of us safe. It started out as a comedy but it evolved into a reflection of how this economy and our need to be safe is changing things and making everybody crazy. The scary part is that this book is mostly the truth and in fact the beginning that set the whole thing in motion, actually happened.
