I decided to change my identity. Instead of “Robert Theodore (Teddy) Anson,” I became Robert (Bob) T. Anson.I wanted to leave behind all the foolishness which identified me during grade school and Junior High years. I wanted to preserve “Teddy’s” childhood and the memories “Teddy” treasured.By the time he was seven years old, Teddy Anson lived in five states and attended three schools. In the next few years, Teddy tried to bring his world to school and into play with neighborhood “friends.” Then things changed again.I glanced back and said, “Goodbye, Patty Nelson.” I walked past the library on my way home. “Goodbye, library.”As often as we moved, I never learned to linger or say gracious things when parting from friends.Bye, Rose Rock. Bye, freedom and security of small-town streets. Bye, childhood. And Hello, Tess.
